Trekking.

Trekking is a form of walking,undertaken with the specific purpose of exploring and enjoying the scenery. Walking is the good habit of humans. It can increase our health and reduce our stress. So trekking can increase our immunity and health.

Trekking Safety:

  • Before starting your trekking, study that area. Avoid trekking during bad weather or bad climate situation.
  • Carry rain coat or windsheeter. Climate can change any time.
  • Carry trekking bag. The bag should spacious enough to carry all the important trekking essentials while trekking.
  • Keep lighter,knife,blanket,water bottle,winter attire in your carry bag.
  • Wear full sleeves shirts and pants,especially for trekking to prevent insect bite.
  • Carry trekking rope of about 50 meters of length with you.
  • Take a direction compass and a map. This is must while trekking in mountains.
  • Keep medical kit,for your safety.

Keep such accessories which are easy to carry and may add grace to your overall look
  • While planning your trekking trip,check your medical fitness. This is very important to be fit and fine before heading for trekking. You may also prefer to have medical precautions against diseases like malaria,cholera,tetanus,typhoid and hepatitis.
  • Carry proper prescribed medicines to prevent serious health problem including heatstroke,headache,cough,dehydration and hypothermia.
  • Wear proper trekking shoes while trekking. Uncomfortable pair of shoes can hurt your feet and cause serious foot injuries while trekking. So wear proper trekking shoes before heading for trekking.
  • Carry food items which carry larger amount of carbohydrates.
  • Take important medicines and first aid box with you.
Keep all these points to avoiding health problems while trekking.

Don't trek Alone

Don't take trekking lightly. Accidents can happen to the strongest and most experienced of trekkers. In fact,experts recommend traveling in groups of minimum of five (5) people.

Always coordinate with your group leader when you trek. Never leave the group if you need to inform the group leader.

What is Green Passport ? How can we use Green Passport

 The Department of Forest and Wildlife in Kerala started a new programme “ Green Passport “ to create awareness among common people. It encourages those interested in wildlife conservation by acknowledging their efforts and contributions. It also documents the contribution of people who engage in certain nature conservation measures by visiting various wildlife sanctuaries/places. The Government hopes to generate more people interest and make those already involved in more pro-active and enthusiastic in wildlife preservation.

How can we attain a green passport ?

  1. It is available in all territorial/wildlife divisions.
  2. It can be obtained by applying in your nearest wildlife divisional forest office.
  3. A form needs to be filled and submitted for which there is a fee of  Rs-100 and for students it is for Rs-50.
  4. An affidavit needs to be obtained from the nearest Range forest office starting that the applicant is not involved in any criminal offences in the past. Green Passport number and division code number also needs to be obtain from here.
  5. In case the application is rejected , the divisional forest office / wildlife needs to give a official document to the applicant within 15 days starting the reason for the rejection.

A Passport holders needs to produce his passport at the entrance of a visiting wildlife places where it needs to be stamped with the date and seal by an officer of a rank of no less than that of a Range officer needs to maintain a register for all the coming with a Green Passport. Each green passport should have a special division number and division code. During visiting hours , a passport holder can document his activity relating to wildlife conservation in the passport itself.
For Eg:- Plastic waste removal, extinguishing forest fire, digging pit to hold drinking water for wildlife animals as well as wildlife related study camps or other forest conservation activities can be documented and sealed by the concerned officer in the green passport.
